The James Bond of Philanthropy: Charles 'Chuck' Feeney

Publicado em 10 de jan de 2017
Think Bill Gates and Warren Buffet have given a lot to charity? Think again…

Charles Feeney has quietly given away almost every dollar of his US$8 billion fortune. He's been called the 'James Bond of Philanthropy". Feeney made his money selling goods in duty-free shops and then investing in start-ups like Facebook and Alibaba.

He secretly vowed to give away all of his money to higher education, public health, human rights and scientific research. He achieved his quest last month, donating his last US$9 million to Cornell University.

His foundation refuses to put his name on any buildings or programs it sponsors, and gave away money under strict confidentiality. Feeney still has some money left: his remaining net worth is US$2 million. But that's just 0.25% of what he once had

Both Gates and Buffett have said it was Feeney that inspired them to give away a majority of their fortunes
